The area is full of history, from the Victorian hillside town of Malvern to the lovely riverside town of Upton upon Severn – now accessible via a pre-booked OnDemand bus. See spectacular Medieval stained glass in the 900-year-old ‘cathedralesque’ Great Malvern Priory, discover the history of the Victorian Water Cure by visiting Malvern Museum in its ancient gateway and by exploring the natural springs, or see modern cars made with traditional methods at Morgan Motors on a factory tour in Malvern Link.
Great Malvern railway station houses a new local history museum about the discovery of Radar, The Technology Station, and you can also take a guided historic walk through the town with the TrailTale App.
Pick up a town map or book a historic town walk at Malvern Tourist Information Centre.
Food and drink
Local produce is at the heart of The Malverns, the area is filled with orchards and farmland creating some very short journeys from source to plate. Try local pasture raised beef at Madresfield Butchers and Grill, sample delicious treats from local bakeries and tearooms, taste freshly baked cruffins from Faun’s on-site bakery and don’t forget to grab a beer or cider fresh from the field at one of our many pubs serving local real ales.
There are regular farmers markets across the district, including Great Malvern Farmers Market held on the third Saturday of every month.
Arts and entertainment
Malvern is a hub for entertainment in the area with a large Theatre and Cinema complex showing world class productions, Malvern Theatres. Great Malvern is also home to the world’s smallest theatre, the Theatre of Small Convenience, that is reopening after restoration in March 2025. Or head to historic venues Coach House Theatre or Regal in Tenbury Wells. The area has music in its blood as the birthplace of one of England’s most recognised composers Edward Elgar. Elgar spent much of his life in Malvern and credited its beauty with inspiring some of his most loved works.
The Chronicles of Malvernia walks allow you to walk in the footsteps of those who have been inspired here, such as C. S. Lewis and J. R. R. Tolkien. Visit our bookshops or find your own inspiration to write your own story.
Creativity thrives, with regular arts and crafts markets selling the finest artisan products through the year. You can also visit Malvern Hills Gallery – a local cooperative selling locally-made arts and crafts.
The area is bursting full of seasonal celebrations and festivals. Please visit our What’s On Guide.
The great outdoors
The Malverns is blessed to include the Malvern Hills National Landscape (AONB), a range of 32 hills with breathtaking views across the Severn Valley, Herefordshire and all the way to the Black Mountains in Wales. Download Malvern Walking App for loads of easy-to-follow trails or pop into one of our Tourist Information Offices to pick up a map or walking trail.
There are two Rail Trails (created by the Ramblers Association in partnership with the Worcestershire Rail Partnership and Point2Guides) that take in the highest point of the hills, the Worcestershire Beacon with its spectacular views across the Severn Valley and the Welsh Black mountains on a clear day.
