How GWR Rewards works
Collect points when you book valid rail tickets on GWR.com or the GWR app, or when you travel using GWR pay-as-you-go (PAYG), for journeys between stations served by GWR. The more you travel, the more rewards you unlock!
Spend per day via GWR.com, GWR app or GWR PAYG | Points earned | Daily maximum points |
---|---|---|
£30 to £69.99 | 10 points | 20 points |
£70 or more | 20 points |
A maximum of 20 points can be earned per day for valid ticket purchases on GWR.com or the GWR mobile app, and a maximum of 20 points per week for GWR PAYG journeys.
For all the details on how GWR Rewards work, check out our terms and conditions.
GWR Rewards and member tiers
Everyone starts at the Bronze tier. Bronze, Silver, or Gold tiers are determined by the points a member earns during their membership year. The more you travel and spend, the more points you collect, unlocking even greater rewards.
Membership tier | Points required | Rewards |
---|---|---|
Bronze | None |
40% off your ticket Free hot drink 10% off food and drink |
Silver | 50 points |
Free Standard return ticket One-off First Class lounge access 15% off food and drink |
Gold | 120 points |
Free First Class return ticket Full First Class lounge access 20% off food and drink 3 courses for 2 with Pullman Dining |
Once you reach 120 points and qualify for Gold tier, your points will be capped. You will not earn any additional points beyond this threshold.
Your points reset each year on the anniversary of your enrolment into GWR Rewards. When you earn enough points for the next tier, you are automatically upgraded. Your new tier is kept for the rest of that year and the full following membership year.
For all the details on GWR Rewards and tier levels, check out our terms and conditions.
About GWR Rewards
GWR Rewards is a loyalty programme from Great Western Railway that recognises and rewards your journeys with us. Membership is divided into three tiers – Bronze, Silver, and Gold – with benefits that increase based on your travel activity.
Membership is currently by invitation only as the programme is being trialled. To be eligible, individuals must be 16 or over and have an online account with GWR. Invitations are sent to customers who have opted in to receive marketing communications, including Product updates and/or Offers. Existing customers can check and update their marketing preferences by logging into My Account.
No, joining GWR Rewards is free.
All members start at Bronze. Members move to Silver after earning 50 points and to Gold after earning 120 points within a membership year. Points reset annually on the anniversary of enrolment to the programme. Once a member earns enough points to qualify for the next GWR Rewards tier level, they are automatically upgraded. This can happen at any time during the membership year, and the new tier is retained for the remainder of that year and the entire following membership year.
Bronze members get a free hot drink onboard and a one-time only 40% discount on a return journey with GWR (valid for two Advance Single tickets on GWR services). You’ll also receive a 10% discount on food and drink onboard every time you travel.
- Silver: A one-time use complimentary Standard Class return ticket for one person (valid for two Advance Single Tickets on GWR services), one-time access to the First Class lounge for the member plus one guest, and a 15% discount on onboard food and drink.
- Gold: A one-time use complimentary First Class return ticket for one person (valid for two Advance Single Tickets on GWR services), unlimited First Class lounge access for the member plus one guest, a Pullman Dining offer (three courses for the price of two) for the member plus one guest, and a 20% discount on onboard food and drink.
Yes, Season Ticket holders receive Bronze welcome rewards upon joining. However, journeys made with Season Tickets don’t count towards Silver or Gold tiers. We are exploring options for Season Ticket holders and will share updates in the future.
Anyone can join GWR Rewards at the Bronze tier, but only tickets purchased through GWR.com or the GWR app qualify for earning points towards Silver and Gold tiers.

Rewards and benefits
Members receive unique codes and barcodes in their tier welcome emails. Food and beverage codes are activated immediately. Codes for the 40% discount (Bronze) and free tickets (Silver and Gold) become active the next working day. If received on a Friday or before a bank holiday, activation happens on the next working day after the weekend or holiday.
Here’s how to use them:

- Lounge access (Silver and Gold) – Show your code at the lounge. Both Silver and Gold members may bring one guest with a valid GWR ticket for that day of travel. Silver members get one-time access, which covers both the outbound and return journey, while Gold members enjoy unlimited access. Valid for 365 days. Please present appropriate ID.
- Free tickets (Silver and Gold) – Enter your code in the Promotional Code section at the final checkout page on GWR.com or the GWR app. Valid for 365 days. Outbound and return bookings must be made in one session.

To request a change, submit a request via our online webform at https://rewards.gwr.com with the Reward Ticket booking reference number. Requests take up to three working days to process.
Members can currently view account balances via the My Account section on GWR.com. Later this year, members will also be able to access statements and redeem rewards in the GWR app.
Bronze rewards are issued upon joining. Additional rewards are given when members move up a tier or requalify.

- Silver and Gold: Complimentary tickets, lounge access, and Pullman Dining offers (valid for 365 days) from reaching the tier.

Tickets given as rewards do not qualify for Delay Repay compensation.

Earning points
Members earn points based on their daily qualifying spend with GWR. Here’s how it works:
- 10 points for spending between £30 and £69.99
- 20 points for spending £70 or more
Points are awarded based on the total spend in a single day, made in one completed transaction for valid ticket purchases. Any additional transactions made later that day will not earn points.
For Pay As You Go (PAYG) travel, points are awarded based on the total spend in a single week for one or more valid journeys.
A maximum of 20 points can be earned per day for valid ticket purchases or per week for PAYG journeys.
Members receive regular email updates with their points balance and tier status. Points can also be checked by logging into a GWR account online or via the GWR app, under the My Account section.
Points reset every 12 months on the anniversary of a member's enrolment in GWR Rewards.
Points can be earned on Advance, Anytime, Off-Peak, and Super Off-Peak, Family tickets, Sleeper Cabin Supplements and tickets purchased with a valid Railcard, booked directly through GWR.com, the GWR app, or via a member’s GWR PAYG account. Travel must be between two stations served by GWR on services operated by GWR.
Season tickets, Flexi tickets, and tickets bought from third-party retailers do not qualify.
Points will not be awarded for any cancelled trips where a refund has been issued, whether the cancellation is made by the member or by GWR.
For tickets without a specified travel date, such as an Open Return Ticket, points may take up to 29 days from the date of the outward journey to be credited.
PAYG customers earn points based on their total spend each week, calculated from Monday to Sunday. Points are allocated the following Friday.

2.6. When redeeming rewards onboard or at the station, you may be asked to provide a form of ID so that a GWR member of staff can verify it against your Membership. If a GWR member of staff is not able to verify your Membership you may not be able to redeem rewards onboard or at the station.
2.7. Keep your details up-to-date. You can change your personal information directly in your account. If you change your name, email us at https://rewards.gwr.com with written details and valid proof.
2.8. You can only have one Membership Account at any one time.
2.9. Your Membership starts from the date you register for GWR Rewards.
3. All about GWR Rewards Tier Levels
3.1. Your GWR Rewards Tier Level (Bronze, Silver, or Gold) depends on how many Points you earn from Qualifying Spend during your current Membership Year. You will be placed in the GWR Rewards Tier Level that corresponds to the total Points earned. Find details on GWR Rewards Tier Levels and Points needed on this web page.
3.2. When you join GWR Rewards you will automatically qualify for the Bronze tier level and unlock the rewards available for that level.
3.3. Once you have enough Points to qualify for the next GWR Rewards Tier Level, you will be automatically upgraded, which can happen at any time in your Membership Year. You will keep this level for the rest of that year and the whole of your following Membership Year.
3.4. If you do not earn enough Points for your GWR Rewards Tier Level in a Membership Year, you will be moved down to a lower level at the beginning of the next Membership Year according to how many Points you have. We will give you plenty of notice before any changes to your GWR Rewards Tier Level.
3.5. Your Points reset at the start of each Membership Year. They do not roll over to your next Membership Year.
3.6. We may sometimes change the number of Points needed for each GWR Rewards Tier Level. We will email all Members to let you know well in advance of a change. The latest information on GWR Rewards Tier Levels can always be found on this web page.
3.7. Once you reach a new GWR Rewards Tier it may take until the next working day for you to receive your rewards email.
4. Qualifying Spend and earning points
4.1. You will earn Points for spending on Qualifying Spend with GWR, which refers to purchasing Valid Tickets. Here's how it works:
- earn 10 Points for Qualifying Spend between £30 and £69.99; and
- earn 20 Points for Qualifying Spend of £70 or more,
in a single day, in a single transaction, on one or more purchases of Valid Tickets. Any additional transactions made on the same day after the first completed transaction will be excluded from earning Points. Only the first Qualifying Spend transaction completed each day will count towards your Points balance. Or, in a single week on one or more Valid PAYG journeys.
You can only earn a maximum of 20 Points in a single day (for Valid Journeys) or single week (for Valid PAYG Journeys).
4.2. Points for Qualifying Spend on Valid Tickets are earned on the day you make your purchases, but the Points will be allocated to your balance after your journey is completed and your Valid Ticket has been used for travel. If you purchase a ticket with no specified day for travel, such as an Open Return Ticket, it will take up to 29 days from the date of your outward journey for your Points to be credited.
4.3. Points for Valid PAYG Journeys are earned based on your weekly spend. Your weekly spend is calculated from Monday to Sunday. Points will be allocated every Friday based on your travel the previous Monday to Sunday. The £1 pre-authorisation charge and incomplete charges are excluded from earning points.
4.4. As long as they meet the requirements for a Valid Ticket, eligible tickets include Advance, Anytime, Off-Peak, Super Off-Peak, Family Tickets, Sleeper Cabin Supplements and tickets purchased with a valid Railcard. Find more about ticket types.
4.5. Season tickets, Flexi, and Ranger & Rover tickets are not Valid Tickets and do not qualify for Points. Journeys where GWR is not the primary carrier, or where the majority of the journey is completed on another operator, are excluded from Qualifying Spend.
4.6. Points will not be awarded for any trips that are cancelled, either by you or by us, where a refund has been issued. Where a refund is issued after Points have already been credited to your account, the Points earned will be removed from your balance. If these Points caused you to move up to a new GWR Rewards Tier Level, you will be moved back to the appropriate level and any rewards issued will be rescinded.
4.7. For the avoidance of doubt, a ticket will only qualify as a Valid Ticket if it was purchased on the GWR app or at GWR.com. This means tickets purchased at GWR ticket offices, ticket machines, onboard machines, other station offices, or external retailers will not be Valid Tickets. If you need help booking your ticket you can call us at 0345 7000125 or contact us via our online web form at https://www.gwr.com/help-and-support/contact-us.
4.8. Register to GWR Rewards at least 24 hours before booking travel to earn Points. You can still register for GWR Rewards and earn Points for a journey if you have already purchased your tickets, as long as you register at least 24 hours before you travel.
4.9. To ensure you earn Points on your Qualifying Spend, make sure the email address linked to your GWR Rewards account is used at the time of booking. If your ticket is for a journey on a specific day, Points will be automatically added to your account the day after you have completed your travel. For Anytime, Off-Peak and Super Off-Peak Return tickets, tickets, points will be automatically added to your account within 29 days from the date of your outward journey.
4.10. Think your Points balance is wrong? Let GWR know within 90 days of travel. Send details of the issue and any proof via our online web form at https://rewards.gwr.com.
4.11. Any Qualifying Spend covered by credit available in your online GWR account will still count towards earning Points.

6.3. To use your 40% discounted ticket, ticket purchases must be made through GWR.com or the GWR mobile app. Purchases at station ticket offices or machines are not eligible.
